Hot news: Ogie Diaz denies taking 40% commission from Liza Soberano’s earnings
Talent manager Ogie Diaz has refuted allegations that he took a 40% commission from actress Liza Soberano’s earnings while she was under his management.
In a recent YouTube vlog, Ogie addressed a Twitter user’s claim that he had been taking 40% of Liza’s income.
“How I wish… We only take 20%… It’s not true at all. I was only getting 20%,” he clarified in his vlog.
During the vlog, posted on Friday, March 3, Ogie’s co-host, Mama Loi Villarama, disclosed that while Ogie’s contract with Liza stipulated a 30% commission, he chose to lower it.
“It’s true that the agreement with Liza was 30%, but I decided to break my own contract because I could see how hardworking she was,” Ogie explained.
He added, “You could really see in Liza that she wanted to excel and achieve her goal of becoming an actress.”
Ogie also shared that he wanted to help Liza save money.
“I didn’t feel sorry for her, but I thought, ‘This kid deserves it,’ so I reduced it to 20%. I broke the contract I made myself just so she could save more,” he said.
The talent manager further revealed that he even waived his fee when offering Liza the Filipino adaptation of the hit K-Drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay last year.
“I just wanted her to accept it because I wanted her fans to see her. It wasn’t about the money anymore,” he emphasized.
Liza recently made headlines after posting a YouTube vlog on February 26, where she shared her thoughts on her journey as an actress with ABS-CBN.
In that vlog, Liza expressed, “During all those years, I was never really asked for my input, my thoughts, my ideas. I felt like I was just told to be a flower for so long.”
She added, “I think I’ve earned the right to finally be myself, to finally do things for me, as Hope Soberano (using her real name).”
Following Liza’s statements, Ogie posted a vlog offering advice and reminders for her.
“If Liza feels that she was controlled by the people around her—if that’s me or Star Magic—I want to thank her for following us. Maybe that’s why she became popular,” Ogie said in his vlog posted on February 27.
He continued, “Imagine, if nothing happened to Liza’s career when I and Star Magic were managing her, her narrative would be different now. At least this way, she doesn’t have to rant about nothing good happening in her career, right?”
Ogie reminded Liza to acknowledge those who helped her achieve her dreams.
“Remember, my child, you reached fame not just because of me, Star Magic, ABS-CBN, and the production staff; it’s also because of your dedication to work. It’s because of you. So, applaud yourself too, okay?” he said.
He concluded, “Everything you’ve achieved, you worked hard for it, my child, to give your family a good life. They’re your inspiration, and that’s why you loved your career too.”
